Needle in Her Vein

March 20th, 2008 by SLOMAT

Is it truly worth it,

to give your life away?

If you had the chance to leave,

would you still feel inclined to stay?

In the darkness lurks a beast.

He has no face, nor a name.

It’s said that once you meet him,

your life will never be the same.

We underestimate his power.

“just this once” are the famous last words.

like a falcon in the sky,

you think your wings are spread like birds.

Adrenaline pumps through my veins,

there’s no beast, I’m on top of the world.

Another candidate at his fingertips,

the beast strikes down a twelve year old girl.

Piece by piece her morals and values become dormant,

She’s not the same.

Is the beast really the culprit?

or perhaps is she to blame.

I want to be just like her,

my sister-in-law and friend,

If only I had known,

who it would make me in the end.

Burried beneath these lies,

There’s nothing left within,

I tell myself, just this once,

I have to do it again.

Why didn’t you try to stop me,

before it was too late.

My best friend Jimmy died last night,

I helped put the needle in his vein.

My hearts full of sorrow, frustration, and pain.

nobody to point the finger at,

Just myself to blame.

I hide my face in shame.

my mother wrote this poem,

three weeks later I found her dead,

with a needle in her vein.

my life will never be the same.
